Hi Foodies,

Foodie Penpal is an exciting  program that was started in September by an American blogger named Lindsay who bogs at The Lean Green Bean. Its a program where program participants get to know each other through food packages and they send to each other. Lindsay started her program with 30 participants by September 2012 she had over 1,300 participants in the US and Canada and a UK Program with 200.

I started the  Kenyan chapter in 2012 and took a hiatus in 2014 then relaunched the program in January 2015. I hope that it will also grow each month.

Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be YOUR responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and agree on how the items should be shipped or delivered to your penpal and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until between the 15th– 20th of the month to deliver your goodies to your penpal. Between the 20th and the end of the month to COOK something using the ingredients sent. On the last WEEKDAY of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal and what you made with it! This can be done either on your blog if you are a blogger and/or on the Foodies Club-Nairobi Facebook group and your social media platforms if you wish, But everyone is required to post on the Foodies Club page
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsPLEASE be creative e.g do not send Exe homebaking flour or tuzo milk !! The spending limit is Ksh 1500/=The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are, whether they are perishable or not. I will provide a few options on my page about the courier services but it is YOUR RESPONSIBILTY to make sure the items are delivered on time and that they are in the best condition possible.
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together the should post on the Foodies Club-Nairobi Facebook Group. Bloggers should also share links to their post on the group page.

-Please right your Post on the last weekday of the month (Monday to Friday)

Please read the terms and conditions. You can use this sample email to contact your penpal
