Chilli Beef with Coconut Cream and Dhania
Coriander is by far my most favourite and treasured herb. I’d add it to tea if I could just so that I could have a taste of it. Oooh wait maybe I should try that 🙂 hehe I digress. When I saw this recipe in the Australian Women’s Weekly Sensational Stir fries cook book there was no question I had to try it. And it did not disappoint.
The original recipe uses lamb but I had none so I just used beef fillet steak instead and kept all the other ingredients as is. Do try it. Serve with some hot rice. Your family will love it. HAPPY COOKING!!
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or whatever you have in hand)
- 2 small fresh red chillies, chopped
- 1 clove of garlic crushed
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 450grams beef fillets (you can also use lamb), sliced
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 2 teaspoons sugar (preferably brown)
- ¾ cup coconut cream
- Small bunch of chopped fresh dhania (coriander)
Instructions
Heat oil in a wok or large sauce pan
Add chillies, garlic, ginger and onion. Stir fry till soft. Remove
Add lamb in batches, stir-fry till lamb is tender
Add onion, sauce, sugar, coconut cream and Dhania. Stir until hot
Serve with rice. HAPPY EATING!!

do i have to boil the lamb a bit before i fry them or i just stir fry wen still raw?
Wangeci Wandere November 7, 2012 at 6:15 PM
Hi Francis,
Cook them when raw. If you get the fillet cut it should be soft. when you go to the butchers ask them for fillet. Fillet is normally sold as a whole piece as the animal only has one. in beef its usually around 1.2-2kg dunno about lamb. and it looks cylindrical. Make sure they don’t play you.
some times they give steak which is what kenyan butchers call meat with no bones no fat. so be carefull

Hi Wangeci,
Where do I get Fish Sauce. What is the brand name so that I can check at Nakumatt?
I’m a first timer and I want to try out new recipes like this one, just for the love of food.

Hi Kimani,
You can get fish sauce from Nakumatt and tuskys. Havent checked the other supermarkets
The brand I use is Suree, I think, it has many names on it. It yellow. If you go to the supermarket go to the aisle with sauces like tomato sauce, soy sauce, vinegars etc. it should be there.
Also look out on a post il do in the next few weeks on what to buy to stock up your kitchen.
Thanx for stopping by. HAPPY COOKING!
