When We Met Jack by The Grill
So this past weekend, on the 29th of October, I attended the Jack Daniels Brothers of the Grill at Arboretum in Nairobi. To say it was an amazing event would be a great under statement. This is one event you never want to miss. I know I never want to. It is so worth it. Worth the drive across town, worth the time I spent there, worth the money. Let me tell you how it all went down.
This is the second Jack Daniels Brothers of the Grill. The first one was in June 2016. I attended this one too and after I did I promised my self I wouldn’t be missing any of the others. For the first one my girl and I went at around 5.30- 6ish pm and thought we were so on time. Turns out we were late for food but in time for alcohol. LOL. We did not eat from all the stands as a few had run out of food so for this one I was determined to eat, eat and eat.

The crowd when we got there and it only got larger from there
I went with the Mr this time and true to Kenyan culture he did not understand why I would want to go for an event by 4pm. But I planned to eat from as many stands as I could so we went. On our way he warned me that we would leave by 7 as he had to be home early to rest and watch football. LOL. I just looked at him and said FINE! You can not argue a case with someone who has no idea what amazingness was awaiting him.
The Deco at Brothers of the grill was on point as always. So it sort of makes you forget the slight wait at the entrance as they try and sort out your ticket. By 4pm most of the seating space under the tent was gone so we ended up sitting outside under the sun which wasn’t a good idea with the heat but ended up being the best seat in the evening.

Pork and kuku from Y-not
Now lets start with the food. You get 4 food vouchers when you go in. So between us we had 8 vouchers meaning we could eat from from 8/10 stands. I ate from Mels Kitchen, Monicos, Carnivore, Y-Not BBQ, Havana and Privee Other restaurants that were there include Orwas Kitchen, Coco Jambo, Party Hog.
Of course I had my favs; The mini burger at Monicos served with a pesto sauce was great. Not sure if it was burger or just my love for pesto that just made me love it. At havana I loved their sauce, they had a pulled pork slider that was just amazing and some beef too. OOH wow. The pork at Y-not was my absolute favourite. They did an awesome marinade and served it with some kachumbari and ugali. Heaven just before a drink.
Alcohol again was on the house. We got 4 alcohol vouchers when we got in. I wasn’t drinking (I will tell you why soon) so the Mr got 8 vouchers. He ordered for the Honey Stringer cocktail as he has recently fallen in love with Jack Honey, You should try it, it is less woody than the Number 07, works great in a cocktail, the Mr loves it with Krest.
Other than eating and drinking there were other activities like a Jack Daniels Jenga, and there were some prizes to be won, maybe next time I will give it a go
In conclusion you really can not afford to miss this event next time. For ksh 1,500 you get food and drinks? the only additional cost you’d have is the taxi home. Call me 3 weeks before the next one so that I can clear my schedule.
And in case you were wondering the Mr forgot about his warning for us leaving by 7pm. At 10.30pm I was the one begging to go home. He has spent the last week telling everyone how amazing the event was. Like I said before I couldn’t argue with him because he had no idea how awesome it is. Next time I bet you he will be the one insisting we should go.
Before I forget how cool is this jiko grill from cookswell?
