Whiteish bumps on your babys precious lips after a feed?
Have you ever seen these whiteish bumps on your babys precious lips after a feed? These are lip blisters and they are one of the many signs that can indicate tethered oral tissues. When a baby needs to remain latched but has a tongue restriction, the lips have to act as the primary seal to get the milk they need. The lips are basically holding on for dear life and that’s why the blisters form. It can be a sign of the tongue not functioning well. In conjunction with other signs, it can help give clues that something is off. Other signs can include painful nursing or damaged nipples, misshaped lipstick nipples after a feed, frustration at the breast, clicking sounds, sensitive gag reflex, poor weight gain, grassiness,spit-up or reflux type symptoms, recessed chin, high palate, recurring clogged ducts.
If any of these symptoms sound familiar, please find a provider who is trained in tongue ties. NOT all pediatricians or dentists or lactation consultants are knowledgeable to recognize or diagnose them.
